Most basement flooding problems can be easily solved with sump pumps, designed to remove excess water from home basements and crawlspaces. Hydromechanical is an established plumbing company in Fairfield County, CT. We have the tools, skills and expertise to offer professional sump pump installation services.

How Does a Sump Pump function? Where does it get installed?

Sump pumps are basically submersible pumps that are placed at the lowest point in your basement or crawlspace, at the bottom of a sump pit. We install a perimeter drain system around your house that collects all the water and channels it into perforated drainpipes directing it towards the sump pit. The sump pump gets triggered by a float switch and pumps your excess water to the nearest detention pond or dry well. As for energy usage, the sump pump turns on only when the collected water inside the sump pit reaches a specific level.

You can plug sump pumps into an outlet, or even wire it to your home’s electrical system. We highly recommend buying a backup battery as well, to insure the pump still works during power outages, even more so if water is being pumped away from your household.

Best Practices of Sump Pump Installations and Maintenance:

  • Test The Sump Pump Regularly
  • Maintenance and Cleaning
  • Consider a Battery Backup

Most new homes in Fairfield County, CT are usuall equipped with sump pumps but even older homes can be retrofitted with a sump system to prevent basement flooding.
